We had a quick and spontaneous trip to Dallas this weekend for a few reasons. We went to a ministry conference with none other than the infamous Kirk Cameron - along with Ray Comfort and a few others. It was kind of fun watching the old growing pains star - he looks exactly the same??
Here he is talking to gang members about God:
Here's the youtube channel for their ministry.
My noted lesson for this conference was Metamelomai vs. Metanoia.
These Greek works that are used in the New Testament to denote repentance have different meanings. Metamelomai is regret or change of mind, but not necessarily a change of heart. Metanoia is used of true repentance, a change of mind and purpose in life. A practical example was described in achieving true "metanoia":
If I am taking a trip up to Canada with someone and I'm driving.... they will probably be taking a long nap. After they wake up, we find ourselves in Mexico. At this point, I have to:
2. make a sincere apology
3. turn around
4. start driving in the right direction
5. don't stop until we hit our destination.
.... a simple story that makes Metanoia seem easier to accomplish in our everyday life :) Unfortunately, I don't always find myself surrounded with roadsigns and maps.
We were also able to make only a few quick visits with friends, because we were there for another reason. We'll have to announce that reason soon :) Stay tuned.
